There is never a bad time of the year for a little cinnamon roll indulgence! And while most rolls include the dripping icing and fluffy dough layers, this recipe is a little different. I learned it in my Home Ed. class (talk about a blast from the past) and my family enjoys these to this day!
And while they are best served warm, straight out of the oven, they also reheat well and last for a few days in a cool area. So what do you think? 🤔 Are you up for giving these a try?
The following recipe comes from my Shiver Me, Snowman novella, featuring the characters from my "Slice of Life Mystery" series.
What you will need for this recipe:
Dough Mix:
2 cups of sifted flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/4 cup sugar
8 Tbsp. shortening
1/2 - 2/3 cup milk
Cinnamon Mix:
1/2 cup sugar
enough cinnamon for flavoring
(Approx. 2 Tbsp. of butter will be needed later)
Directions:
For the dough, add dry ingredients together in a bowl.
Cut shortening into ingredients until pea-sized. Add milk and mix. (Dough will be sticky)
Sprinkle flour onto a clean surface and empty mixture onto the area.
Knead about ten times and then roll dough out until it is about 1/4 inch thick.
Melt about 2 Tbsp. of butter and pour onto the dough. Spread to cover the whole area.
Make the cinnamon mix and sprinkle over the buttered area.
Begin with the widest end and roll dough up. Slice into twelve equal segments.
Using a greased twelve-count cupcake pan, put one slice into each spot.
Bake in a pre-heated 425 degree oven for approx. 15min. or until golden brown.
Serves 12 Bakers 😉
(Feel free to experiment by adding fruit to the dough, such as black raspberries and peaches. But keep in mind what the added moisture might do.)
Now, I shouldn't have to mention this, but this recipe is only a suggestion. I am not held responsible for any damage to yourself, or any object in your house, should you decide to give this recipe a try. And it is always important to double-check with food allergies whenever making food for large groups at work or get-togethers.
I hope that you can add this scrumptious recipe to your baking arsenal this year, and feel free to jot down your favorite style of cinnamon rolls in the comments below. Until next time, have fun baking! #cinnamonrolls #cozymystery #recipe #dessert #sweets #dough #baking #noyeast
