I am so excited to start this author interview blog series! But before we dive right in, who is Misty?
Misty Simon always wanted to be a storyteller…preferably behind a Muppet. Animal was number one, followed closely by Sherlock Hemlock… Since that dream didn’t come true, she began writing stories to share her world with readers, one laugh at a time.
Touching people’s hearts and funny bones are two of her favorite things, and she hopes everyone at least snickers in the right places when reading her books. She lives with her husband in Central Pennsylvania where she is hard at work on her next novel or three. She loves to hear from readers so drop her a line at misty@mistysimon.com.
What is your ultimate goal as an author?
My ultimate goal as an author is world domination! Just kidding! Actually, I often jokingly call myself Calgon – a bath salt whose commercial touted it as being able to “Take you away.” I want to be able to give you a story that will make you forget anything else that is going on at the moment, to make you laugh even when things are not going so well, to give you a moment to sink into a world where justice is always served, and communities are full of people who are there for you to be entertained and make you happy.
How much is based on real life versus made up?
Oh, I don’t know if I should actually tell you that… LOL! So, every single one of my heroines is part of me. They all have pieces of my personality or my lived experience. I also use a lot of fun memories to bring my stories to life. I do however completely make up the murders, but as a caveat they are usually based on someone who irritated me before I started writing the story. It’s great therapy!
What is your favorite food to eat?
Grilled cheese! And only if they make it correctly – cheese, bread, and butter.
Do you prefer pen and paper, or computer for writing?
I use all of the above! I use pencils and big artist paper to mindmap out the story before I get started, then I use pen and notepad paper to write out a timeline to keep myself on track. Finally, I type the whole thing out on a word processor, then edit it on a full-size computer!
What is Unbridled Hauntings about?
What’s a girl to do when the past comes back to haunt you? With her colorful past, Iona Hoover is hoping for a bland and beige future when she moves back to Chincoteague Island in Virginia to help her aunt run a pet treat store called Unbridled Bliss. But when she finds a dead body, suddenly her whole world goes topsy-turvy.
She’d grown up in turmoil and had relied on her imaginary friends to vent to when she was little. But now the quartet she’d called the Silver Bettys is back and they weren’t her imagination, they’re ghosts. They want to help her solve the mystery, but there’s only so much they can do according to the rules of the afterlife.
Iona will take all the help she can get though. When she uncovers some secrets in the small town that others would like to keep hidden, she knows she’ll need every ghost on deck to figure out whodunnit, or she could very well be joining the Silver Bettys on the other side.
